Maungawhare Parklands can be accessed by foot from the end of Parkvale Rd, off Grange Rd. The park is closed to vehicles; there is a small amount of parking available in the cul-de-sac.
This reserve, a joint venture between the owners of the historic home and the council, features a few remnant trees of the Otumoetai bush and four large Norfolk pines planted between 1884 and 1890; the northernmost was the tallest in the Bay of Plenty until it was struck by lightning in 1978.
There is an information board at the park entrance for those interested in reading more about the park’s history.
As this park borders private property please respect the owners by staying within the park boundaries (the cache has been placed with permission from the landowner). It may be closed Wednesdays and Public Holidays for maintenance purposes.

This cache (Strung Out) is the third of the FTF Challenge series, which was started by Bridgeaway with Incey Wincey Spider (GC4AENE) and continued by NZFlossy with the Challenge Cache (GC4B8MZ).
You will find Stage One (a camouflaged micro) at the listed co-ordinates (SEE HINT BELOW). You will need to follow the clues / instructions around the park; each part will help you find the next, until you reach the cache itself. The terrain is flat and not much walking is involved. Teamwork might be needed. Best not attempted in the dark.
The final cache (Stage Four) is a 1-litre camouflaged Sistema container, which when placed contained logbook, pencil, a few small swaps and the FTF Challenge TB. There is also room for other trackables.
Please replace all parts of this multicache as found and re-hide well. Take care not to be seen retrieving or replacing items, as school children and others may also be wandering through the park.
