West End Water Pollution Control Centre The WEWPCC has three stages of wastewater treatment: 1.Primary treatment 2.Secondary treatment 3.Polishing ponds that accept the secondary effluent and provide additional seasonal disinfection and additional seasonal nutrient removal There was the addition of a biological nutrient removal system to the existing secondary treatment process. This significantly reduces effluent nitrogen and phosphorus loads to the Assiniboine River and ultimately to Lake Winnipeg.
