The Makino Bridge connects a park by the Makino Aquatic Centre with the corner of Hobson and Stafford streets leading to the town's public library.
It was erected in 1900 by NZ Railway, at a cost of £353 as an over-rail foot bridge for Feilding people to cross the tracks safely. It was adjacent to Aorangi St and used until 27th Feb 1978. To preserve it’s value it was then moved to this site by Feilding Lions Club and is regarded as a historic place.
The bridge’s high arches are a special feature.
It was closed to the public in May 2013 while $40,000 worth of sand-blasting, cleaning, repairing steel rods and repainting was carried out. It is now open again, looking better than ever.
