The Municipal Golf Course was originally opened on a September afternoon in 1912 as a 9- hole course on reclaimed land bordering the Irish Sea.
The course was designed by Harry Shapland Colt, it is England’s Oldest Municipal Golf Links. The local Mayor teed off from the first at the new municipal course and was followed by a match between two local professionals. Peter McEwan from the Hesketh Golf Club and a D McEwan from the then Birkdale club, later to become ‘Royal Birkdale’. During the 1930's more land was reclaimed and it was extended to an 18-hole course. The course celebrated it’s Centenary last year.
The cache is not at the clubhouse as the title might well assume but nearby.
To access the cache a tool might well be necessary. Please replace carefully as found.
Nettles and brambles could also be a problem during Spring and Summer.
