Geocache Description:

This cache is located by the local sugar beet dump.  Harvested beets are brought here by truck. They are weighed, sugar tested, and piled up. Later they are trucked to the factory in Sidney for processing. The cache is an ammo can located not far from the road - first to find prize is a lotto ticket.

To hear the publicists, boosters, sugar men, and old timers tell it, the story of the growth of the sugar beet industry in the yellowstone river valley and eastern Montana is a story of progress whereby the irrigation farmer, "the most independent man on earth," created a paradise out of a prairie dog town with little or no help from anyone.  This cache is dedicated to those hard-working individuals...


This cache is part of the 2013 Cache In Coin Out Challenge. You can get a game card for this challenge at the Makoshika Visitor's Center located in Makoshika State Park, or Hell Creek Music and More located on Merrill Avenue in Glendive. To complete the challenge, you must collect a seed from five designated caches and place them on your gamecard. You can turn your gamecard in to receive a free geocoin. This year's geocoin features agruculture in eastern Montana.
