Geocache Description:

William Bartram was an American Naturalist who visited Paynes Prairie in 1774, calling it the Alachua Savannah.
Embark on this Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park adventure, geocaching tools in hand, and learn more about 26 different species of trees as you discover them in person and solve the Bartram Mystery Puzzle.

The starting coordinates are true. The key to Bartram's journey was the people he met along the way - remember this when you find the gateway to this journey. All coordinates are within the southern entrance of Paynes Prairie, thus this puzzle can only be started/completed during open park hours from 8 am to sunset daily. Visit the starting coordinates to receive all the information you need to embark on this mystery adventure. It's a 5 star puzzle, so come prepared for a real challenge and a few hours to complete it! You will receive a handout that lists 26 additional coordinates to gather all the clues. Using information from the 26 clues, complete the puzzle to find out where the final cache is hidden. A sharp eye and keen mind may help you in your quest for the hidden prize. Be prepared to explore great distances, as Bartram did - Bring along a source of transportation, such as a car or bicycle, to assist you in covering the distances between these points a little faster than Bartram would have.
