Dette er cache nr. 9 i en serie basert på Norrøn mytologi i Tromsø.
This is the 9th cache in a series based on Norse mythology in Tromsø.
Yggdrasil er navnet på verdenstreet i Norrøn mytologi. Treet er en ask med grener som rekker ut over hele verden. Denne asken bæres av tre lange røtter som går gjennom tre forskjellige verdener (hos æsene, rimtussene og i Nivlheim). Ved enden av hver rot er det en brønn, blant annet Mimes brønn som er kilde til vett og visdom.
I grenene til Yggdrasil holder en rekke skapninger til: Fire hjorter beiter i trekronen, en ørn (Vidofnir) sitter i toppen og mellom øynene på den sitter en hauk. I tillegg har vi ekornet Ratatosk som løper opp og ned stammen og bærer sladder mellom Vidofnir og ormen Nidhogg i Nivlheim.
Navnet Yggdrasil betyr "Odins hest" og er dannet av leddene "Yggr" (den skrekkelige) som er et av kallenavnene på Odin, og "drasill" som betyr hest.

Yggdrasil is an immense and holy ash tree in Norse Mythology. The branches of Yggdrasil extend far into the heavens, and the tree is supported by three roots that extend far away into other locations. At the end of each root lies a well, and one of these is the famous Mimisbrunnr (the well of wisdom).
Severeal creatures live in the branches of Yggdrasil: Four stags are grazing in the tree-crown. The eagle "Vidofnir" sits at the top, and between its eyes there's even a hawk. There is also the squirrel Ratataosk, which runs up and down the stem of Yggdrasil.
The generally accepted meaning of Old Norse Yggdrasill is 'Odin's horse', consisting of "Yggr" (one of Odin's many names) and "drasill" which means horse.
