Geocache Description:

A small screw top tub with space for a TB and maybe a small swap or two.

Mega Scotland 2014


This picturesque little bay with space for parking and a couple of picnic tables is named for the white pebbles on the shoreline. In summer you can often find many hermit crabs if you're willing to take off your shoes and socks to go for a paddle! On a clear day you can see some high peaks, such as Ben Arthur ('The Cobbler'), in the highlands.

In 1869 some old graves were discovered here and some had the white pebbles from the nearby beach lining them. However, in the days before the island's rubbish was taken off the island for recycling or safe disposal, it was also the location of 'The Coup'. The cache is located at the old entrance to the coup, although there is no sign of any rubbish now.

The cache has been placed to honour the Cumbrae Dead Man's Bay CITO (cache in, trash out) event scheduled for 1.6.13. Congratulations to FrlKitty for achieving a FTF many kilometres from home! The original hint referred to the 237m chimney at Inverkip Power Station. This was demolished on 28.7.13.
