A park with more statues than trees
This cache will show you one of the most “bizarre” parks in Skopje. The park is called Zhena Borec, (Park of the Women Fighters) and it is located in the middle of downtown Skopje.
The park used to offer to the citizens of Skopje, especially the elder ones, an escape from busy city life. More recently, Zhena Borec has become a site of numerous large monuments.
You will see a Monument to Children - Refugees from Aegean Macedonia (and to my parents), a statue of Slavko Janevski (poet and prose writer), Monument of the Defenders of Macedonia , A marble- golden “triptych” of Prometheus, Horses and an Angel, Group monuments of the Macedonian history from the WWS etc. If this trend will continue it the near future, there will be more statues than trees in this park… Experts on art, urbanism, architecture etc., mostly from abroad, are stunned of this chaotic mixture of styles, and especially of the concentration of statues per such a small area.

One curiosity is associated with the statue of Prometheus. Original version of this mythological hero, who brought fire to people, represented A NAKED Prometheus. Can you believe, that in 21. century, when nothing (almost) is taboo, when Michelangelo’s David is exposing proudly his masculine attributes for some 600 years, the genitals of poor Prometheus has horrified some women's organizations?! And what did the city fathers? Believe or not, they ordered that Prometheus must wear panties! So, don’t worry, the moral of Macedonian women is preserved. (Look at the photo!)

An other interesting thing about this park is, that to my knowledge, here is not any sculpture of a Woman fighter, despite the name of the park. Some citizens of Skopje already call this place The park of men. No wonder…
NOTE: I am seriously thinking to propose to Skopje City authorities to install in this park a statue of a Geocacher (male), holding in his left hand GPS, pointing with his raised right arm toward some cache far away. With panties, of course
