Geocache Description:

BONSAI

This cache will lead you to a certain place, where you can improve your knowledge of dendrology, botany and art of bonsai.

On the west side of the City Park in Skopje, across the Alexandar Palace Hotel, is located Garden center with its exceptional bonsai exhibition part. Bonsai means "plantings in tray, from bon, a tray or low-sided pot and sai, a planting or plantings.

The bonsai collection consists of mainly native species. The most numerous are boxwood (Buxus sempervirens) specimens, some of which are also the oldest. Apart of boxwood, there are also specimens of other species, such as juniper (Juniperus spp.), pine (Pinus spp.), Japanese maples (Acer palmatum), beech (Fagus moesiaca), hornbeam (Carpinus spp.), ash (Fraxinus spp.) and others.

The Bonsai center

There are many reasons to visit this center: You don’t need to go to Japan to experience its spirit through the art of growing and maintaining mini trees and shrubs… If you fall down from a bonsai tree, picking fruit or climbing up on it, it does not hurt at all… If a monkey hides from you in the crown of a bonsai tree, you will easily detect it, because its tail will lie on the ground… .

Useful info: the Garden center is open Monday-Saturday 8.00-16.00, the entrance is free.

How to get there. By car, follow the signs to Hotel Alexandar Palace. The Garden center center is near the hotel, on the same side of Vardar River, across the boulevard “8-mi Septemvri”. The best way to get there is to walk in the City park, or by bike.

Nearby the Garden center is National restaurant Balkanica (very good, but not cheap).

The cache is a micro white plastic container. Bring your pen.
