Geocache Description:

The Great Southern Rail Trail, 49 km from Leongatha to Foster.  Foster station closed in 1981.  Train travel in South Gippsland was taken for granted as kids, special trips to the Melbourne Zoo or Melbourne Show.  It was not until riding along the GSRT 40 years later to place these caches that I realised what a spectacular train trip this used to be, overlooking farmland, mountains and Wilson's Prom.

As at May 2013, this is the end of the Great Southern Rail Trail.  Across the road is the next section of the Rail Trail to be opened, the section from Foster to Toora, and eventually to Welshpool.  The trail is almost complete, with a bridge being constructed over the Franklin River further ahead.  Hopefully this next section will be open for all to enjoy before the end of 2013.
The cache is easily accessed from the track.  You may need an extraction tool.  Please replace carefully.
