The signs can be made of different materials from fibreglass to wood, from forged steel to stone. They can depict anything from local industry to historical events. The tradition probably stated in Norfolk or Suffolk and has now spread across most of the country so we thought we would base a series on them! Stanstead St Margarets is a village adjacent to Stanstead Abbotts and the two are separated by the train line. Further up the road is Great Amwell. The Greenwich Meridian passes through Stanstead St Margarets as can be seen by Meridian Obelisk just over the New River.
To find the cache: Take away the number on the train from this set of co-ordinates N51 54.139 How many letters on the sign (3 numbers)? Take away from this number W000 01.027
If anybody would like to expand this series please do. I would just ask that you let SmokeyPugs know first so they can keep track of the Village Sign numbers and names to avoid duplication.
