Geschichte:
Eine Sage aus dem 14. Jahrhundert berichtet über die Entstehung des Ortsnamen: Spielende Kinder entdeckten an den Ufern der Donau eine Marienstatue, die scheinbar gegen den Strom zu schwimmen schien. Die Stelle wurde "Maria Anlandt" benannt, daraus entwickelte sich im Laufe der Zeit "Maria Alland" und schließlich "Maria Ellend"
Im Altertum war das Gebiet Teil der Provinz Pannonien. Im österreichischen Kernland Niederösterreich liegend teilte der Ort die wechselvolle Geschichte Österreichs. Die erste urkundliche Erwähnung findet sich um 1080, vom 12. bis 14. Jahrhundert wird der Ort durch das Rittergeschlecht von Haslau bestimmt und damit auch Standort einer Burg. In dieser Zeit ist der Ort ein Lehen von Orth an der Donau beziehungsweise Petronell.
Nach den Türkenkriegen 1529 und 1683 war der Ort stark entvölkert und wurde in der Folge von Kroaten besiedelt, weshalb landläufig der Ortsname Kroatisch-Haslau verwendet wurde. Nach dem Zusammenbruch der Donau Monarchie 1918 strebte die Bevölkerung den ursprünglichen Ortsnamen Haslau an. Im 18. Jahrhundert kam es zu einem Erdrutsch, bei der die nördliche Zeile des ehemaligen Straßendorfes abstürzte.

History: A legend from the 14th Century reported on the formation of place names: Children playing discovered on the banks of the Danube, a statue of Mary, which apparently seemed to swim against the current. The place was "Mary Anlandt" named, it evolved over time, "Mary Alland" and finally "Maria Ellend"
In ancient times, the area was part of the province of Pannonia. In the Austrian state of Lower Austria lying core of the site told the eventful history of Austria. The first mention is found around 1080, of 12 to 14 Century it is determined by the knights of Haslau and thus also the location of a castle. During this time, the place is a fief of Orth or Petronell.
After the Turkish wars in 1529 and 1683 the site was heavily depopulated and settled in the wake of Croats, which is why the place name commonly Croatian-Haslau was used. After the collapse of the monarchy in 1918, the target population to the original place names Haslau. In the 18th Century, there was a landslide in the northern line of the former village road crash.
