Geocache Description:

A regular container with a logsheet.

Kaalspruit has nothing to do with a nudist colony!

But it does have a link to the farm Onze Rust and Pres M.T. Steyn

Pres M.T. Steyn was the 6th President of the  independent Orange Free State or Oranje Vrijstaat from 4 March 1896 – 30 May 1902. The president had bought the farm Onze Rust, a part of the farm Leeuberg from Gen Kolbe, and used it as a weekend break away.

On Friday afternoons, he and his wife, Rachel Isabella Fraser Steyn, would take the train from Bloemfontein to Kaalspruit Station and there the horses and buggy would be waiting. They would the drive from there to Onze Rust for the weekend. The row of bluegum trees lining the route can still be seen on Onze Rust. Monday morning it was back to Kaalspruit Station and the train journey to Bloemfontein and their other home in the Presidency.

In 1905, they moved to Onze Rust and set up their home there. MT Steyn passed away on 28 November 1916. His wife passed away on 3 January 1955.

This has been told to me by Adv Colin Steyn, the great-grandson of MT Steyn, and present owner of Onze Rust and Leeuwberg.
