‘4.45@1555’ was placed during a second trip to this particular area by the E
T’s. On the initial trip, we had only intended on placing HIGH Noon. While looking for GZ for it, we saw the area beyond to the north. ColoReido had somewhere to be so he headed back to the Baldy trailhead and I continued on and placed Jordan. I saw that there were plenty of locations for another cache or two and although coloReido knew where I was, I decided to be safe and to return another day!!! I was crusting on 3-4 feet of snow and if I started to fall through, it would make for a long trip back to my snowshoes which were in the georig at the Baldy trailhead!
The trek to hide ‘4.45@1555’ was started at the Baldy Trailhead. We made our way out Wallace Wynd Drive beyond The Fountain of Fair Fortune and up to HIGH Noon and headed north across the snowfield to what ended up being GZ for ‘4.45@1555’. We saw ptarmigan, wolf tracks and many spiders. Spiders out in the middle of the snowfield crawling along to who knows where? And how did they get here???
Upon reaching GZ, we began the search for the ‘hide’ while taking in the beautiful day.
While doing so, I saw a nice pile of rocks which turned out to be a mountain tribute plaque for someone else who liked the high country! We found the hide location and I began to prepare the container, enjoying the views while doing so.
The container is a bluish gray cellphone case
which measures 6 in x 1-5/8 in x 3 in.
Not able to come up with a cache name, we decided to use the distance from the georigs to GZ and the time that the cache was placed!!! Simple but effective!!!
As an alternate, one might access ‘4.45@1555’ from the Ptarmigan Valley trailhead. It may be closer. On the next trip up this way, I plan to try it. Yes, the area is worthy of another trip…summer or winter!!!
Is this an E
T hide?????? Yes, it is…a typical mountain E
T hide. One where the experience is more about the trek to and fro, and what you will see along the way and at GZ! Come visit this cache, the others in the area and experience a day in the Chugach!!!
Oh... and you might take a nap while doing so too!!!!
This cache is placed under Alaska State Parks Permit no 13-KA-1289 Geocache AK.
