I live close to Elton Reservoir, but often forget what a peaceful place it is, and, most of the year, a pleasant walk to clear the head after a busy day a work.
So I planned this short series to introduce the area to others to enjoy.
It's home to the Elton Sailing Club so you may want to plan your visit to coincide with one of the sailing events – see the calendar at http://www.eltonsailingclub.co.uk/
If there's no sailing going on when you visit, you will enjoy the fresh air, clear views and avian occupants and visitors – early morning visits are (according to my neighbour) the best times for birders to spot the rarities.
For public transport users, step off the 471 bus near the Tesco Express & follow signs for Eleton Sailing Club or the Sustrans Cycle Route 6
There is a car park, accessible from the Bolton Road (A58), but NOT from Bury Road, Radcliffe (you can walk from there, though).
The circular walk is around 3.5km and is level, although the path can get very muddy in wet weather, and is not suitable for pushchairs or wheelchairs, I'm afraid.
