Geocache Description:

A walk in the woods so we have been asked the history of this the only information i have been able to find is this is Flimby colliery ruins. Little remains identifiable now of any of the pits in this woodlands, the shafts have been capped all lines and tramways removed and all majour buildings completly demolished. What is left is very overgrown, standing astride what was probably an old tramway. This paticular pit was called robin hood.

Enjoy a walk while finding the set of 4 caches i have placed though the woods. Set out to be approched from Flimby with parking in the near by houseing estate  a 5-10 minute walk past a farm and over the cattle grid into an open field. Follow the main track though to the woods. You can also access the woods though the opposite end starting at Broughton Moor. There is a hill involved that can get muddy depending on the weather. Well done Bottom Bracket FTF! Im not sure when the pit was opened but the 1st registered owner was in 1880 and the pit closed in 1909. more information can be found on dmm.org searching Flimby colliery. If you have any further local knowledge feel free to let us know and we will add it on for you.
