Geocache Description:

SDSQ = South Dakota Spirit Quest. It is a heading used on many caches in other states that deal with Cemeteries. This cache is placed with utmost respect for the area.

Carr Cemetery, also known as Ward Cemetery, is a small, family cemetery in the Black Hills National Forest, Lawrence County SD. There are only 12 internments here, mostly from the Carr family. No other information is known. Since our previous visit here last fall, it appears that someone has rebuilt the fence around the grounds, keeping the at-large cattle out.

To get to the cache, take Hanna road south from Cheyenne Crossing until you get to Long Draw Road. The cemetery and cache is about 3.9 miles from the junction. There is a spot to somewhat pull off the road right above the cemetery. It is a short, but very steep slope down to the valley below. Use caution, especially if it is wet or icy. You do not have to enter the cemetery to find the cache. If you do chose to visit, please pay due respect and do not disturb any of the markers or headstones. Follow any and all posted cemetery regulations. Most importantly, do NOT look for this cache after dark. You are looking for a small lock-n-lock style container located a short distance to the west. Please replace the container at least as good as you found it.

As with all of our caches, enjoy the history, be safe and have fun.
