Greetings cache owner,

I have been looking at caches in the area that have been temporarily disabled for a while now and it looks like your cache has been under the weather for some time. While I feel that Geocaching.com should hold the location for you and block other cachers from entering the area around this cache for a reasonable amount of time I don’t think we can do so any longer. Therefore, I have archived this cache. If you haven’t done so already, please pick up any remaining cache bits as soon as possible.

When repairs to this cache are completed, and it is time to have it listed once again it will be no problem as long as it still meets the guidelines. Just drop me a note( by email at Mongo@geocachingadmin.com) and let me know the GC waypoint number of the cache or better yet, the URL of the cache page. You will still be able to access your cache page just as before by going to your “My Cache Page” and clicking the link of your cache.

I want to thank you for the time that you have taken to contribute to geocaching in the past and I am looking forward to seeing your cache up and running in the future.

So there needs to be a few more caches in this area to fill in the gaps and to get you to the Beautiful places on the Mark Twain National Forest.  This is one of the ways into the wilderness.  I was talking to the trails person about geocaching and he has no issues with geocaching except in the wilderness.  He's not sure they should be place in a wilderness.  So if you want to place one in the wilderness ask the reviewers who to ask permission from before you place it.

I would think a micro with a log could be easier to get approved but you have to get it done before you place it.   So this cache is outside the wilderness and I think there is plenty of room for cache around the wilderness so look there first.  This one is at the sign.  Take some time and go down the short road to the pond and read the wilderness signs and please consider a nice walk.  Nice place to stop while your on the way to other stops.  The day we placed this one we place one at Falling Spring Cemetery too.  Which may not be active yet but it will, Falling Spring Picnic grounds are to good to miss.

The Irish Wilderness is a dense forest of oaks and hickory. Wilderness is set aside by Congress as a natural area affected primarily by the forces of nature with little evidence of man’s works - “where man himself is a visitor who does not remain.” Many outdoor enthusiasts seek out its peace and special closeness to experiencing the wonders of nature. No two individuals share the same meaning and values of the wilderness experience, but it is primitive and challenging, and recreationists must be self-reliant.

In the mid 1800’s a Catholic priest dreamed of a place where Irish immigrants could escape the oppression of urban live in St. Louis. In this wild area of the Ozarks, Father Hogan established a settlement that would forever bear their name, Irish Wilderness. The Irish Wilderness, caught in the middle of the Civil War, became a “no man’s land” and was raided by both Union and Confederate troops as well as bushwhackers. It is not certain what happened to Father Hogan’s Irish immigrants, but after the war they were gone.
