This cache has been archived.

Reviewer Revan: Cache Owner (CO) has not responded, so I am regretfully archiving this cache to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking new cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace this cache sometime in the future (not to exceed 10 days from the date of this entry), just contact me (by e-mail), and assuming it still meets the current Guidelines, I will consider unarchiving this cache.

Please be advised this is not a guarantee that this geocache will be unarchived. Many factors will go into my decision. The most important of which is how you responded to geocachers who tried to communicate with you regarding the problem(s) with this geocache hide and how you communicated with me, the Reviewer Revan.

Geocache Description:

GeoBasics 3

How Not to Be Seen

This cache is in an area that frequently has a lot of people. These are muggles - the general public who don't know what Geocaching is. You're going to have to learn to be inconspicuous when you search for a cache around people.

Realize that most people are too busy paying attention to themselves to take notice of you staring at the back of a street sign. Many of the ones that do notice you intently inspecting the bottom of a newspaper stand either don't care or will just think you're crazy. It's the ones that want to know why you're suspiciously pulling a film canister out from the branches of a larch that you need to watch out for.

Usually all you need is proper timing to get a find without being noticed, but some players take joy in how they hide their activities.

Some carry expensive cameras and pretend to be photographers specializing in odd closeup shots. Others just pretend to be mindlessly wandering around while talking on the phone. Others appeal to the general public's trust (...fear?...) of authority figures and show up in densely populated areas with bright reflective construction vests and clipboards.

Retrieving the cache without being seen isn't enough. You then need time to sign the log sheet which gives muggles more time to notice you. One way to deal with this is to retrieve the container and walk off with it. This way your activity isn't associated with the regular hiding place, and any curious muggles have a harder time pinning down where you were acting suspiciously. You can take your time and make your way back whenever another window of opportunity presents itself.

Every cache is a unique situation and you'll need to decide what's best for it.

The primary purpose of The GeoBasics Series is to introduce common concepts of Geocaching to new players leading to full game immersion as the players are guided through a selection of progressively more difficult caches.

The secondary purpose of this series is to satisfy the requirements for several standard Geocaching challenges.

The series is broken up into 4 subsections based on the skill level required to attempt the caches within each. The numerical order assigned to the caches is intended to allow a player to easily track their progression through each subsection before moving on to the next one. However, this is not a requirement since the series is not placed entirely in a geographically linear order. (For someone completely new to the game, following the numerical order for the duration of the introduction is advised.)
