Geocache Description:

GeoBasics 5

Not Formatted To Fit Your GPS Screen

Before we get to far into this, it's time for a bit of a history lesson.

The Letterbox Hybrid is a type of geocache that borrows heavily from a separate game that traces its origin back to 1854 in Dartmoor, Devon, England.

The basic premise of letterboxing is to find a container via a set of clues instead of a set of coordinates. The container will contain a stamp and a log book. Often, the stamp is uniquely carved for that particular letterbox. The visitor then uses the stamp to make an impression in their own personal notebook. They then mark their personal stamp in the letterbox's log book.

People that play letterboxing will be finding this shared container via the clues posted elsewhere. You, as a geocacher, are getting to the cache with a set of coordinates much like any other regular cache. The coordinates posted above will take you straight to the container.

Please remember, the stamp inside is NOT A TRADE ITEM OR A TRACKABLE. It must be left in the container for the visiting letterboxers.

This is not the cache you're looking for. Move along.

The primary purpose of The GeoBasics Series is to introduce common concepts of Geocaching to new players leading to full game immersion as the players are guided through a selection of progressively more difficult caches.

The secondary purpose of this series is to satisfy the requirements for several standard Geocaching challenges.

The series is broken up into 4 subsections based on the skill level required to attempt the caches within each. The numerical order assigned to the caches is intended to allow a player to easily track their progression through each subsection before moving on to the next one. However, this is not a requirement since the series is not placed entirely in a geographically linear order. (For someone completely new to the game, following the numerical order for the duration of the introduction is advised.)

[Since this is supposed to be a difficulty 1, the temporary location is in the roots of the tree, on the Walmart side, behind a chunk of loose bark.]
