
Nauthúsagil means the canyon of the cattle houses.
In the bottom of the canyon is a waterfall but what is most interesting is the magnitude of trees that line the canyon edges. Nauthúsagil is most famous for a rowan (mountain ash) that once stood in the canyon opening. It was one of the biggest trees in Iceland and considered holy and all those who tried to damage it received bad luck.
