Monument Cemetery
Monument Cemetery is a non-sectarian cemetery that was founded in 1865 on 10,000 acres of land that was purchased for $2,000 from Joseph Weyman. The cemetery is still active and there are close to 5,000 graves here. A chapel was built in 1920, but is no longer used. A columbarium was added last year for the interment of ashes. The cemetery grounds have been expanded over the years, and is now approximately 22,000 acres (about the same as Beverly National Cemetery next door). This is a wonderful little spot to walk through and look at many familiar names in the history of Beverly City. William A. Cortright, Jr. is buried here, after whom the American Legion Post in Beverly is named. As you search for this cache, please be aware that the cemetery is closed from dusk to dawn every day. Also, NO dogs are allowed on the property. Please be respectful of graves and especially, please keep a respectful distance if there is a funeral in progress! There is a scratch-off NJ lottery ticket for the FTF! There is also room for some small trinkets. Cache is been approved by the Monument Cemetery Board of Trustees. *Information is from a "History of Burlington County, NJ," www.findagrave.com, and trustee John Haaf and cemetery administrative assistant, Mariann Janus. Congratulations to jdawg87 for FTF!!
