A fourth generation Floridian, Fritz was born on June 25, 1925 in Madison, Florida, but moved to Jacksonville in 1934. He was an entrepreneur and hard worker from his early days. He sold the Jacksonville Journal on the corner of Julia and Adams Streets from the age of 9 through 11, and from the age of 11 through 18, he delivered the Florida Times Union to the Springfield area. After finishing high school at Andrew Jackson, he served proudly in the United States Navy, where he was on the boxing team, until returning to Jacksonville in 1948. In 1962, he and his wife Rose, opened a real estate sales and land development business and proceeded to develop 37 subdivisions and to sell thousands of homes, lots and large tracts of land. As Owner and Operator, he played a very active leadership role in the Real Estate community serving at the local, state and national levels. He was President of the Jacksonville Board of Realtors (now NEFAR) in 1976. He was the winner of the B.C. Buck Memorial Trophy in 1966 presented for the most ingenious real estate transaction by the local Board; Florida Association of Realtors (FAR) Kenneth S. Keys Award in 1964 and 1966, District Vice President, Trustee and Chairman of the Political Affairs Committee of the FAR; over 25 years on the FAR Legislature Committee; FAR and National Association of Realtors (NAR) Director; President of the Florida Chapter of the Farm and Land Institute; he was the Realtor Member of 2010 Advisory Land committee to the Florida Department of Community Affairs which developed a comprehensive zoning plan for Duval County; 1997 NEFAR Humanitarian of the Year; and 2001 Presidential Lifetime Service Award (NEFAR's highest honor). He was a member the Solomon Lodge F & AM, the Scottish Rite Bodies, Morocco Shrine Temple and the Royal Order of Jesters. His philanthropic endeavors include a contribution to the University of Florida College of Law of more than 900 acres with John W. Lee in 1973 which was sold to the State for preservation and according to Dean Frank T. Read helped "set off the sparks that ignited the fire" which resulted in Bruton - Geer Hall. He also contributed to the University of North Florida to establish a professorship known as the William F. Sheffield Professor of Real Estate and for the William F. Sheffield outside pavilion, both at the College of Business. In 1981, he founded Green Pine Cemetery, Yulee, Florida.
