Na začiatku roku 1836, americký umelec a vynálezca Samuel F. B. Morse, americký fyzik Joseph Henry a Alfred Vail vyvinuli elektrický telegraf. Tento systém posielal impulzy elektrického prúdu pozdĺž drôtov, ktoré riadil elektromagnet, ktorý bol umiestnený na strane príjemcu telegrafu. Morseova abeceda bola vyvinutá tak, aby operátori mohli prekladať znaky uvedené na papierovej páske do textových správ. Zaujímavosť: slovenský vynálezca, architekt, botanik, maliar, vlastenec a rímskokatolícky kňaz Jozef Murgaš (1864 –1929)sa podieľal na bezdrôtovej telegrafii a pomáhal rozvíjať mobilnú komunikáciu a bezdrôtový prenos informácií a ľudského hlasu. Murgaš použil systém tónov. Systém tónov je použitie dvoch signálov s rôznymi frekvenciami, tj. Murgaš nahradil "bodku" v morzeovke s vyšším tónom a "čiarku" s nižším tónom (rok 1904, patent "spôsob prenášaných správ telegrafiou ").

In 1836, the American artist and inventor Samuel F. B. Morse, the American physicist Joseph Henry, and Alfred Vail developed an electrical telegraph system. This system sent pulses of electric current along wires which controlled an electromagnet that was located at the receiving end of the telegraph system. The Morse code was developed so that operators could translate signs marked on the paper tape into text messages. In his earliest code, Morse had planned to only transmit numerals, and use a dictionary to look up each word according to the number which had been sent. However, the code was soon expanded by Alfred Vail to include letters and special characters, so it could be used more generally.
Morse code can be directly understood by a skilled listener or observer without special equipment. Each character (letter or numeral) is represented by a unique sequence of dots and dashes. The duration of a dash is three times the duration of a dot. Each dot or dash is followed by a short silence, equal to the dot duration. For emergency signals, Morse code can be sent by way of improvised sources.
Interest: Slovak inventor, architect, botanist, painter, patriot, and Roman Catholic priest Jozef Murgaš (1864 –1929) contributed to wireless telegraphy and help develop mobile communications and wireless transmission of information and human voice. Murgaš used the tone system. The tone system is the use of two signals of different frequencies, i.e. Murgaš substituted the "dot" of the Morse code with a higher tone and the "dash" with a lower tone (this is the 1904 patent "The way of transmitted messages by wireless telegraphy").
