1st of a series of 11 caches plus 2 bonus caches along the way marked Usk Valley Walk. The route takes in some beautiful views including Llancayo Windmill, Skirrid, Sugar Loaf and Blorenge. At one point all three can be seen in one view.
Parking given is for Usk Island and there is also plenty of parking in the town. I estimate the series will take about 2 to 3 hours to complete (each direction). Please bear in mind this is a linear route of approximately 3 miles and you will need to walk another 3 miles back. It is possible to do the series in stages where the series joins the road. There are refreshments and facilities at Usk Island and in Usk town. There are also picnic benches at Usk Island. There are two bonus caches which can be found by taking the same route back. The clues for the coordinates for the first bonus are contained in some of the caches on the route. The coordinates for the second bonus are contained in the first bonus cache.
The route can get very muddy in places in wet weather and good hike boots recommended. Also note that where the Usk Valley Walk goes along the river it can get very high with very fast currents and can flood. Care should be taken that geo kids do not go near the river edge. The route in places crosses/edges fields with animals and geo dogs will need to be kept on leads at these points. This is intended as a pleasant walk and I have not made the caches difficult to find. You will need a pen/pencil for cache 1. I hope you enjoy the series.
