The flattened summit of Buachailean (346m) is believed to have been an Iron Age Fort – certainly it’s always been a vantage point, and a great bonfire beacon was lit here as recently as King George VI’s Coronation in 1937, when local working horses were coaxed uphill, pulling great logs behind them for the fire.
From the summit, you will be rewarded with a magnificent view overlooking Ardyne Point, Rothesay, Port Bannatyne, and in the distance the mountains of Arran. Of course, that is on a bright day, not foggy like it when we usually get up there
Park at Ardyne Car Park, follow the track up to the forest track - head to trailhead 1, and then follow the track straight up to the trig point.
