Rhinelander has installed a new waste water lift stational at the Highway 17 bypass and Old Hwy 8. The lift station will pump waste water from the
New Printpack plant. It has been interesting to watch the progress over the last several months. The water and waste water part of the project started last fall and just finished before the Memorial Day Weekend. They installed the water line last fall, they pulled that in from the existing water line at the intersection of Lincoln St. and Eisenhower Parkway. That line, as well as the waste water line, is a 20 inch industrial plastic pipe. The waste water line runs from the new plant to this lift station. Then the waste water is pumped from here to an existing lift station at the intersection Barns St. and Shepard St.

This section of the waste water line is 1.5 miles long. The interesting part about the installation was that they used a drill to bore the hole and installed the entire 1.5 miles of pipe with just 4 sections. It has been interesting to watch the progress of the plant itself. They worked throughout the winter, they constructed a steel frame and connected precast cement sections to the frame to construct the walls. Watching the precast wall section arrive from down south somewhere was like a well choreographed dance. I had taken a trip to Wausau one day and witnessed the trucks hauling the wall sections equally spaced about a half hour apart. The plant covers 5 acres of land and is expected to be in operation by this coming fall.
