Geocache Description:

A family friendly hide a couple of hundred meters off the relatively easy Lisleibane/Cronin's Yard loop. Nice view of Lough Callee too..

Don't hesitate to contribute! See conditions below..

I love scrambling in Reeks, I have 13 summit hides all over Reeks, along the Coomloughra Horsehoe and the Big Hags Glen Loop..
The hides on The Big Gun and Knocknapeasta are two of my best loved finds ever. I thought it was a pity my wife and kids did not know how beautiful Reeks are, so I plotted a simple family friendly loop and waited for some nice weather..
When we were just under The Bone, the ridge leading up Maolán Buí, we found a nice view of Lough Callee at an interesting solitary stone in the slope.. I will be maintaining it when I am going up the Bone over Maolán Buí, Chuilins and Toine to Carrauntoohil :-)

I called this one FF Reeks #1, as this is intended as the start of a Family Friendly series of hides in Reeks.
Any fellow cacher can contribute to this series. The conditions are simple:
----------
1) The container must be regular (or at least small), so that it can hold kids friendly swag
2) Terrain should be up to 3, so that a sturdy 5 year old in good footwear can make it.
3) The hide must follow Leave No Trace principles
-----------
There are plenty of suitable places along the Lisleibane/Cronin's Yard Loop, but you can hide anywhere in Reeks provided the above three conditions are fulfilled.

Lisleibane and Cronin's Yard Loops are basically the same loop, just that the Lisleibane one starts at the Lisleibane car park and is waymarked counter-clockwise and the Cronin's Yard loop starts - surprise surprise - at the Cronin's Yard car park and is waymarked clockwise. Both turn around at the Lough Callee moraine.
We started at Lisleibane but took the loop anyways clockwise, as so the more difficult terrain (about 1.7km of t3) is taken early when the kids are still fresh. The loop taken from Lisleibane is 8.1km and can be easily done in 2.5 hours IF you do not stop moving, which is highly unlikely with kids and would be a pity on a nice day, as there are spectacular views of many Hag's Glen and Reeks famous features, including a number of Top 10 Irish peaks (Cruach Mór, The Big Gun, Knocknapeasta, Maolán Buí, and of course Carrautoohil unless hidden in clouds).
We spent on the lovely loop 6.5 hours including two lunch breaks (:-0) loads of fairy games, at the moraine and pretty much everywhere along the loop, hiding of caches, and we also pushed higher towards The Bone than waymarked to have a better vantage point for the Lough Callee views..
The off road part of the trip is somewhat boggy so should not be taken with kids during wet weather or after long term raining.
--------------
The cache is a transparent plastic compote jar with a green lid and is hidden at the bottom right (when facing the slope) of a solitary triangular shaped boulder, see spoiler pic.
Please mask again after logging and make sure that the jar sits firmly in its hole, so that it is not taken by water.. Weather can be pretty rough in this part of Ireland.
