Placing a cache is sometimes a well thought out process. This is our first Richmond Rally or any rally for that matter, so we volunteered to do our part and help place some caches. Armed with “all” our caching gear we headed out to our designated area.
Placing a cache is sometimes a well thought out process. This is our first Richmond Rally or any rally for that matter, so we volunteered to do our part and help place some caches. Armed with “all” our caching gear we headed out to our designated area.
After loading up with our gear we start our trek, and pick up a few caches along the way, of course! We arrive at our designated area. Now the challenge, where to hide a cache that is not too obvious, but challenging enough. We also try to keep it far enough off the beaten path so it won’t get muggled, but not so far in that you lose your way!
We walk around a bit, shouting” how about here?”, or “this looks good “or” nah, too easy!” Aha! We find the perfect spot. Now to get the cords, sometimes the GPS god’s are helpful and it is an easy task and other times we find ourselves walking in circles trying to get a “good” reading. After we write down the average, we take a few notes of the area and what to call the cache and head on to our next designated area, and the process begins again.
Now that we are home we begin the approval process. This might sound like an easy task, but believe me, even though we have read the guidelines and re-read each time we place a cache, we still manage to get it wrong occasionally!
We fill out the form with all the particulars, starting with the name of the cache. Now sometimes naming the cache can come from the container, for example ones that are hidden in objects might be named after that object. Other times the cache is named for the location, like a historical marker or object. Then there are times like this when you have no idea what to name it, scratch your head and hope for the best!
Once the form has been completed with all the particulars, like the cords, description, terrain and other pieces of information, it gets submitted to the reviewer and you sit back and wait. You wait for the magic email saying the cache has been approved and voila! You are now the proud owner of a cache!
