PARRY’S TOWNSENDIA

Parry’s Townsendia is a beautiful alpine wildflower that blooms usually in early to middle June so if you want to see some you better get up to one of these high ridges before the end of June. They like to grow in open areas below treeline . It has a very short stem with a large flower head.
The best place to start you hike to this cache is shown as WP001. It is the small parking area at the top of a very steep hill on the Powerface Road approximately 6 kms north of the paved Hwy 66. It usually is in good shape. Park and head up the trail to Powderface Pass (about 30-45 mins) and turn right at the trail sign up the Powderface Ridge Trail. It is always handy to have a trail map with you and even handier if you install the “ Southern Alberta Trail Mapping Project” data base on your GPS device
Have fun but don’t pick the flowers.
