Wilkeson Point's First Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

cheektowagabz: So I really hate to do this, but someone really doesn’t want this cache here. I’ve replaced this one more times than I remember. I’m guessing someone else wants to hide one in this park. Well, you win. Have at it!! Thanks for everyone who took the time to find this one. Hope you enjoyed visiting this special place.

Geocache Description:

Make the trip to see this new park! This cache has disappeared numerous times on me. I totally changed this one up. Use your geosenses to "feel" for this one. You won't see it unless you are in the water.

A new park deserves a new cache.  We are honored to place the first cache in this new and exciting park in the City of Buffalo.  After the power authority found a new place to store the ice boom, the leaders actually came together and built a beautiful park.  When the weather is nice, hop in your car and come down to see this great new spot.  You can see the Buffalo Lighthouse, the windmills in Lackawanna and maybe even a concert in the outer harbour.  And while you are there, take a short walk through the park and sign the log on this cache.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              Here is a short story about the opening of the park:

City Honors students cut the ribbon on the new Outer Harbor park.

The students received the honor because they won a naming contest held among Buffalo Schools. City Honors 8th grader Victoria Faltisco says the park next to the Times Beach Nature Preserve is named for Samuel Wilkeson of the Buffalo Harbor Company.

"He was in charge of the construction of the harbor and he improved it to make it so that Buffalo could be the ending point for the Erie Canal. He was also the fifth mayor of Buffalo from 1836 to 1837," Faltisco says.

Faltisco says she has enjoyed the space in the past and now expects to frequent the park more often.

"During the summer, my family came down here to bike ride. Now that this is added, too, it's really nice that we can come down even more," she says.

Park funding was provided by the Niagara Power Project relicensing settlement.
