In 1868 the first white settlers arrived at the foot of Nicola Lake. By 1897, there had been a number of businesses established, a hotel, general store(post office) bakery, harness shop and 2 churches. The townsite was forming. In 1919 Major Goldman, an Englishman, purchased the property, and continued purchasing properties in the area including the townsite from the CPR. He had hopes of dividing the land into small holdings and bringing English families over here to live, forming a town. His plans for this failed so he formed Nicola Lake Stock Farms Ltd. into one of the bigger ranches in the valley. When the ranch changed owners in 1958 the name was changed to the Nicola Lake Ranch. In the following years it became Nicola Ranch Lt. until the current owners who purchased it in 1989 named it the Nicola Ranch.
