I believe this was the shaft of the #2 mine. But a map of the area I have recently acquired indicate that it might not be. If not, it must be a capped section of caving ground. The first time I was here, the spot was just in the woods with a loose rock pile making a cap. There were areas where you could feel cold air blowing out of the rocks.
A new map shows the #2 shaft is to the east, closer to the #1, having been buried in poor rock from when the #1 shaft re-opened. From the size of the rock pile of the original, older cap, it most resembled a shaft cap.
