Geocache Description:

A map of this mine has been included. If you like historical sites, I advise you to print it out and bring it with you, as this is a great site for historical exploration.

Cache is located next to the wall of the hoist house for the North Kearsarge Mine #3 shaft.  Just next to the hoist house is the boiler house, with the base of the smoke stack next to the road.  For those looking to explore more, I have included a map of the mine area.  Just uphill of the boiler, you can find a retaining wall and trestle base(s)  for the elevated rail line supplying coal to the boiler.  Also uphill is the compressor building, with Jacobsville sandstone on its corner.  Go to the resivoir and check out the blacksmith shop Records show that the shop did not have a concrete floor, so is this it?  Or was it next to this and lack of a foundation has it no longer locatable? .  There is a thought that the concrete floor was the location of a pumphouse, which pumped water from the resivoir to the boilerhouses of these mines.  With the pipes and mounting bolts I think this might be so.  To the north, you will find the ruins of the rock house, and the location of the shaft, marked with a pipe.  This mine has some great "other" spots and if I could break the 0.1 mile between caches rule, I would set on them all.  If you like old history, I encourage you to spend some time and check out the rest of this mine, as this is one of the best mine ruins I've explored.
