As you probably already know, Grandma Moses found her donkey George on a farm outside the Kentucky Derby. George was running so fast he could easily compete in the race. Grandma Moses bought him right then and there from the Kentuckian farmer and has had many adventures with him since.
Grandma Moses rode George clear out to the country because she heard there would be a rodeo in town. Grandma Moses and George sat a while, enjoying the bucking mustangs, the cattle roping, and calf tying. Grandma Moses' favorite part was the barrel racing. She had imagined rodeo folk hopping on top of barrels and running so they roll across the race way. She was surprised to learn that it actually means that the barrels are set up around the arena and the women race their horses around them trying not to knock the barrels over. The winner is actually the one with the fastest time. George already knew this information and laughed a bit in a donkey sort of way. As the rodeo was coming to a close, Grandma Moses started to hear loud music coming from the band stand. She decided to investigate and found herself in the midst of a hoedown. She tied up George because everyone knows donkeys can't dance. And she had a good ol' time late into the night.
