Geocache Description:

A small cache container with log and pencil in a camouflaged bag.

A series of caches around the Over Basin section of the Hereford & Gloucester Canal.

The Hereforshire and Gloucestershire Canal (sometimes known as the Hereford and Gloucester Canal) ran from Hereford to Gloucester, where it linked to the River Severn.

Construction of the canal commenced at Over in 1793, and it took until 1845 for the canal to be completed to Hereford.  Canal traffic peaked in 1860, but by then the railways were all dominant, and the canal closed in 1881 when the southern section was used for the course of the Ledbury and Gloucester Railway.

In 1992 the Herefordshire and Gloucestershire Canal Trust was formed from the previous Herefordshire and Gloucestershire Canal Society which was inaugurated in 1983 with the aim of a complete restoration.

The Over Basin was reconstructed entirely by volunteers in 2002 whilst a half mile section of canal was opened at the Over Canal Festival in September 2012.
