Geocache Description:

This cache is found in an undeveloped shoreline area across University Avenue from McLaughlin Eastshore State Park that provides lovely views of the the bay and the Bay Bridge.

The cache is another of my "wild bird" cache series--each of which is named after a species commonly found near GZ.

This particular cache is dedicated to the American Avocet--a graceful member of the stilt family of birds which can often be found around the shorelines and wetlands of the San Francisco Bay Area.  With its long legs, it stalks the shoreline mud and shallow water often sweeping its bill from side to side as it seeks small crustaceans and insects.

Avocets are beautifully plumed with black and white on their back; white on the underbelly with necks and head that are cinnamon colored in the summer and gray in the winter.

This cache should test you--perhaps in more ways than one. Finding it is only half the battle and you should definitely pay attention to the attributes--or you might go home without the smiley.

The area does not see a lot of muggle traffic but still be aware.  Also be sure to take great care when replacing the cache.
