This cache is found in an undeveloped shoreline area across University Avenue from McLaughlin Eastshore State Park that provides lovely views of the the bay and the Bay Bridge.
It is another of my "wild bird caches"--each of which is named after wild bird species that are commonly found near GZ.
This one is dedicated to the Common Starling. Also called the “European Starling,” these birds are sometimes confused with blackbirds as they, too, have glossy black plumage. However, unlike blackbirds, starlings also have an iridescent hue to their plumage and a yellow bill.
Starlings are also a noisy bird with a song that ranges from melodious to mechanical-sounding. They are also well-known for mimicking other birds.
With a diet that consists mostly of insects, they can be found in both urban and rural environments.
This cache is hidden a short disance off a trail on which I saw some starlings. It is hidden under a "geo-pile," among the rocks and debris near the shoreline.
While there, take some time to enjoy the view!
