Hang on to your hat! Traditional Cache

This cache is temporarily unavailable.

Greatland Reviewer: Hello pettyak,

I have been going through caches that have multiple "DNF" (did not find) logs, which is often a sign that a cache is missing. Generally cachers avoid hunting a cache with many DNF logs, so it is a good idea for the Cache Owner to check the cache and either replace it or post a log to the cache page to tell fellow geocachers that the cache is still there, but they might need new eyeglasses. No action by the Cache Owner may result in a cache being archived to keep the cache from appearing in local Pocket Queries.

Please reenable the cache page after you have maintained your cache. To reenable the cache, go to the cache from your Account page on GC.com. Under "Admin Tools" in the upper right-hand corner, click "Enable," write your note and click "Submit log entry."

Please contact me if you have any questions.

Geocache Description:

Alaska State Parks Permit # 13-KA-1289 Geochache AK

Approach from Southfork trailhead and hang a right up the hill to Hunter Pass or take the longer way in from Arctic Valley.  Tough hike, in/out, up/down!  As the name implies......

Alaska State Parks Permit # 13-KA-1289 Geochache AK

We hike the Southfork Trail pretty frequently, and live in Southfork itself.  This bad boy can be best approached from the Southfork trailhead and hanging a right up the hill to Hunter Pass, but I suppose you can get there if you start at the Arctic Valley ski area.  At any rate, you get a great view of the Southfork Valley as well as the Ship Creek valley from this location....you even get a terrific view of the military bases and Anchorage.   Access is not for the faint of heart though....this is a pretty tough uphill hike, and the trail up is not so defined in places.  Be careful going up, AND going down.  As the name implies.....be prepared.  I doubt if this will be accessible in the deepest part of winter.  Good luck!  First to find can snag the trackable I left.
