NOT JUST KOALAS!!

From: http://www.weekendnotes.com/yanchep-national-park/

Yanchep National Park is a long forgotten gem located on the outer northern edge of Perth. Easily accessed from Wanneroo Rd, it is a mere 30 kilometres out of town. The entrance fee is cheap and charged per vehicle, but if you really want to save some money, buy a yearly pass for two vehicles and visit as often as you like.

The historically significant park has some of the oldest buildings in the Perth region, reflecting the parks varied Aboriginal and European history. It also has a tourist shop, tearooms and sells locally made quality chocolate which is well worth the money. For those who have come a long way, there is even the historical Yanchep Inn, serving hot meals daily and offering comfortable rooms.

The spotlight is easily stolen by the local Koala population, who's furry bodies can been seen on swaying tree branches within the koala walk trail. If you time your trip well you can take advantage of the free koala talk at 3pm every day. Also hiding among the trees are local kangaroos, swamp hens, cockatoos and even long necked turtles. A day of wildlife watching is definitely on the cards.

Activities available at the park include cave tours, hiking, boating on the lake, and BBQ activities. The various extensive walk trails are both historically significant, and engaging. The meandering trails lead you through forests, over swamps, beside caves and one of the more extensive trails even leads you to a local 'ghost house' deep within the native landscape. The local 9 hole Golf course proves to always be popular, but be prepared to have an audience, the local wildlife enjoy the shady trees and cool grass just as much.

Perfect for a day trip, overnight stay or even just a family picnic, Yanchep National Park is one Perth attraction you really must take advantage of.

For those of you returning home from a trip further north, maybe you should consider exploring a little closer to home nest time.

For those of you heading northwards, it isn't too late to turn back and visit our cute koala friends before leaving.

Good luck with your search!
