Geocache Description:

Monona is celebrating it's 75th annaversery in 2013.  This cache is one of many to highlight our parks.  These caches will continue to be maintained by our parks and recreation department.  Enjoy! For the 75th event, make sure to note the letter written on the log sheet.

The 2012 Capital Budget including funding for design work for a new Park Shelter at Oneida Park. During the road construction project of Belle Isle in 2011, Oneida Park underwent major changes. Due to the annual flooding of the park, fill from the road construction project was used to increase the elevation of the park by almost three feet. Storm Water drains and piping was also placed in the park to help with drainage. The change in elevation meant 43 trees had to be removed along with the existing open air shelter. A master plan was developed for the park and grading of the park was based upon the master plan. Improvements made to the park during construction included off-site parking and a sidewalk along Tecumseh Ave. The second phase of the master plan includes a new park shelter with attached restrooms.
