Because Shinagawa-juku town divided by this bridge, it was called 'Sakai-bashi' bridge or 'Nakano-hashi' bridge.
When it was repair of the Meguro River, this bridge was rebuilt to south.
A garden and an arbor are built in this Shinagawa bridge on a bridge.

品川橋は、目黒川に架かる小さな橋です。
旧東海道の品川宿はこの橋によって北品川と南品川に別れていました。
かつて目黒川は現在よりも北側を流れていました。北品川にある品川神社の天王祭、南品川にあるの荏原神社の天王祭が同じ日に行なわれており、二つの神社の神輿が北と南の境の橋で行きあった事から、行合橋（いきあいばし）とも言われていました。
また北品川と南品川を分けていたことから境橋・中の橋とも言われたそうです。
目黒川の改修で川は南側に移されたときに、品川橋も移動して現在の場所になりました。
この品川橋は、橋の上に庭園や東屋が建っています。
これは全国でも珍しい形の橋です。
