One of a series of 3 caches placed around Claylands nature reserve to introduce the local Scout Group to Geocaching. As all have been placed according to Geocaching.com rules, we have published them for others to enjoy as well. These caches can also be combined with our nearby "Pondside caches" as there is a direct link from the nature reserve to Pondside Fields. This cache is a small cliplock box with room for swaps and trackables.
Claylands Nature reserve is situated in the former clay pits used by the old Bishops Waltham Brick and tile works, the site of which is now occupied by the industrial estate in Claylands Road. Plenty of parking available near cache #1, especially at weekends and in the evenings. The nature reserve has become very well established in recent years, with lots of wildlife, especially in the many ponds which have been provided for the local newt population. However, the ponds are well fenced, and this is a great area for young cachers to explore. Please respect the wildlife and wildflowers - all of the caches can be easily reached from paths.
This field was full of orchids and other flowers at time of placing cache - please keep to the paths!
All three caches placed with the kind permission of the Reserve Warden and HCC Countryside Service. Please note that at certain times of the year, animals may be found grazing on the reserve to keep the scrub under control (especially Autumn).
