Geocache Description:

Welcome to Northampton County's canoe and kayak launch on Raccoon Creek.  Enjoy the view of this tidal salt marsh creek while looking for a small lock-n-lock container stocked with a few trade items.  Please park on the right as you approach ground zero.  A very short walk will lead you to the cache.  Terrain rating is based on the need to scramble over an obstacle or two.  Depending on the route you choose, you may get your feet a little muddy.

Although the cache is on county property, access by land is only through the Eastern Shore of Virginia National Wildlife Refuge.  Because the Refuge is closed from dusk til dawn, please only attempt this cache during the day.  Although the cache could legally be approached from the water at night, it is not recommended.

The launch is bare mud near low tide, but if you plan to come near high tide bring your paddlecraft and enjoy a protected journey through the marsh.  From this site you can take in views of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel and Cape Charles Lighthouse on Smith Island.  There are no trash cans at this facility so please lend a hand and Cache In Trash Out!
