Geocache Description:

This geocache is part of the Gold Country Geocaching Poker Run 2013. All the fun of geocaching with an added twist; a poker run as well! Check goldtrail.com for more details. Tour through Gold Country and find the geocaches hidden for this event. There will be great views, scenic drives, historic communities and interesting sites to explore!

There was a family run sawmill & planer mill operated here during the late 1800's. Logs were brought by train from the Coldwater area near Merritt. The Canford Mills settlement included a box factory, company store, with post office, a school and a community hall. Wiring defects were deemed to be responsible for the fire that destroyed the sawmill in 1919. Merritt's old railway station also can be seen from here.
