Auckland Tourist Caches! - "The Bombays" Traditional Cache
Ribeana: Had a good hunt with nothing found. The area seems to be the home to many wasps; I'm assuming there is a wasp nest in the tree! Sadly, I'm archiving this one as the rest of the series has also had to be archived or re-purposed, but keep an eye out for a new cache coming to the area!

Launched in 2023, the Auckland Tourist Caches Series, or ATC, is a series of caches in and around Tamaki Makaurau, at many of the tourist spots, as well as some not-so-well-known spots that are more ‘local knowledge.’ The ATC caches are accessible 24/7 and won't require problem-solving or hunting. The hint tells you exactly where it is, so you can enjoy the location and spend less time hunting.
I would love to know where you are from, so please let me know in your log!

When in Auckland, land of the lava, you must play our favourite game... Volcano or Nocano...DRUMROLL PLEASE.................... well this ones complicated. The Bombay hills themselves are not volcanos, however, they are the edge of the Auckland volcanic field, so technically is the edge of the MEGA VOLCANO we built Auckland on.
The Bombay Hills are a range of hills to the south of Auckland, New Zealand. Though only a small and seemingly insignificant range of hills, they lie at the southern boundary of the Auckland region, and serve as a divide between Auckland and the Waikato region. There is a 19th-century settlement, Bombay, on the old main road south of Auckland, the Great South Road.
Aucklanders and other New Zealanders have a mostly light-hearted "love-hate" relationship. Stereotypically, Aucklanders view parts of the country "south of the Bombay Hills" as provincial and unsophisticated, while the rest of the country sees Aucklanders as brash and arrogant. For this reason, the boundary between Auckland and its southern neighbors bears great significance. People on both sides of the boundary are as likely to use the phrase "New Zealand stops at the Bombay Hills".
This cache was origionally 'pluto' in the SSTS series. On the retirement of this series I have kept chis cache as a 'leaving auckland' cache for this series :-)
