A short Stroll from the parking will take you to this stunning viewpoint overlooking Wildevoelvlei. While placing the cache, I watched a pair of Fish Eagles overhead for a few minutes before they lazily flew off towards another part of the wetland, their cry echoing for miles around...
Wildevoelvlei has been in the headlines in recent years for the toxic water issues. A few years ago, cyanbacteria or blue-green scum which can be highly toxic was present due to the Wildevoelvlei Waste water Treatment works releasing effluent into this pristine area. Another cause of toxic pollution is commercial washing powder flowing in with stormwater systems from our homes. Washing powder contains phosphates which are good for tree and vegetation growth but too much causes bad algae's and is detrimental to this kind of natural water body.
There are a number of awereness groups tackling the problem and to date, it is great to see the vlei and the surrounding wetlands looking healthy with a massive array of bird life, crabs and fish.
This cache can easily be done in conjunction with Ground Control(GC4815H)
