At one time the “gateway project” was going to be a genuine improvement for people visiting the village of Cooperstown, complete with a Welcome Center. Like many public works projects it was repeatedly scaled back until now it's just a glorified parking lot and trolley stop. Sadly, lost in all the upheaval, was the Cooperstown Youth Baseball little league field, now covered in pavement under your feet. How ironic! The “home of baseball”, no longer has a little league baseball diamond, as a site for the new field could not be found in town. The new CYB field is eight miles away in the village of Hartwick. I’m not sure the cache location I chose is in line with the Cooperstown Village Board’s vision of the “Gateway to Cooperstown,” but I think it’s fitting. (This cache replaces GC2G9RF - Cooperstown Trolley Blue Lot Cache, which also bit the dust in the gateway project.)
