Release the Kraken Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

BARM_Squad: We are saddened to announce that we are archiving most of our caches and will only be placing new ones if they are truly unique or special to us. We noticed that we really haven’t been enjoying geocaching this past 1-2 years and when we started to think about it, we realized we lost interest around the same time we started placing our own caches. Whether it’s because of what feels like constant maintenance, constant checking up to see if the caches really are missing, or the occasional negative feedback, geocaching started feeling more like a chore and less like a hobby.

Note: Anything we found in all our caches we picked up this weekend we put all together in our Happy Birthday to You! cache (GC312K8) which we had to replace anyways since that was missing too.

Geocache Description:

Ahoy! Kraken be located along t' Bayshore waterfore with a beautiful view, about 800 feet from parkin' (coordinates posted). You must walk along t' sand t' get this sea monster, hence t' terrain ratin' o' a 3. This cache be a bit smaller than a deck o' cards and only contains a log with original swag consistin' o' Toy Story silly bands. BYOP!

No legendary sea monster be as horrifyin' or as large as t' Kraken. This monster o' giant proportions has been sighted off t' coasts o' Norway and Greenland. Legends from twelfth century Norway may have originated from sightin's o' giant squid/octopus which estimates 40-50 feet in length (includin' t' tentacles), though t' Kraken be said t' be 100 feet t' 1.5 miles long t' th' size o' an island! Squids have no skeletons thus no growth limit, so t' real evidence o' this monster be based on somethin' real. Though not truly immortal, t' Kraken has an infinite lifespan and be not subject t' old age.

Although these creatures normally live at great depths, they have been sighted at t' surface where they have reportedly been mistaken as islands. T' real danger t' jack tars whose ships be not attacked be not t' creature itself but rather t' whirlpool port in its wake when it descends below. When t' Kraken attacks a ship, however, it could reach as high as t' top o' a sailin' ship’s main mast. It has been seen t' lift ships high into t' air with its limbs. T' Kraken attacks a ship by wrappin' its arms around t' hull o' a ship and capsizin' it while t' crew drowns or be eaten by t' monster (hint).

Because fish be attracted t' th' vicinity o' t' Kraken just as smaller fish be t' sharks/whales, fishermen often fish over t' creature despite t' risk o' their ship and their lives. On at least three occasions in t' 1930’s t' Kraken reportedly attacked a ship. While t' giant squids got t' worst o' these encounters when they slid into t' ship’s propellers, t' fact that they attacked at all shows that it be possible for these creatures t' mistaken a vessel for a whale.

We had this idea for over a year and found a fantastic tree we could’ve placed it, but after Sandy that tree was gone. This current tree is not as Kraken-esque, but it will do.
